Of all the Orlando Parks, Gatorland is one of the oldest - It started out as a street side show in 1949, so it is older than Walt Disney World! It covers 110 acres and is a theme park and wildlife preserve. There are thousands of alligators and crocodiles, which explains why Gatorland is known affectionately as “Alligator Capital of the World”.
This Orlando Park is situated on the South Orange Blossom Trail between Orlando and Kissimmee. To enter the park you walk through the gaping gator park entrance. Gatorland has a breeding marsh with boardwalk and observation tower, reptilian shows like nowhere else on earth, an aviary, petting zoo, swamp walk, educational programs and much more.
You can watch Gator wrestling, where a gator wrangler will leap on a real giant alligator and then put him to sleep only to be awaken by a tickle. Are these guys brave or completely bonkers?!
Interesting fact: There are less than 500 crocodiles left in the wild in the United States!
Gator Gully Spash Park
In Spring 2007 Gatorland opened it’s very own waterpark. It’s ideal for those hot afternoons when you need to cool off. Just quarter of an acre, but great for a splash around, Gator Gully Spash park featuresa row of giant egrets with water spilling from their beaks, water guns mounted on some gators’ backs, a bucket tree for the little ones to get a soak, and Grandma’s Wet Shack with plenty more water based fun.
